The Section Leaders of the Syrinx Concerts Orchestra


Vera BRODMANN-NOVAKOVA, leader/solo violin

Following her musical studies in Czechoslovakia and Switzerland, MS. BRODMANN-NOVAKOVA became solo violinist of the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra in 1990. She has performed concertos by Bach, Beethoven, Bruch, Dvorak, Sibelius, as well as the complete Mozart cycle, in Czechoslovakia, Switzerland and France.
She is leader of the Syrinx Concerts Orchestra and is a frequent soloist with the ensemble (concertos by Mozart, Haydn, Vaughn-Williams, Mendelssohn and Sibelius).

Gian-Battista ERMACORA, principal second violin

Mr. ERMACORA studied at the National Conservatory of Turin, Italy, and with members of the Quartetto Academico. He has given numerous concerts and received several international awards in the field of chamber music, both in Italy and abroad. He joined the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra in 1994 and has played with the Syrinx Concerts Orchestra since its foundation.

Vasile IOAN, principal viola

Mr. IOAN has been the principal violist of the Nice Philharmonic since 1989. Before that date he held the same position with several orchestras in his native Rumania. As a former member of several different string quartets, he was a prize winner in the Colmars competition and performed throughout Europe and South Africa. He has performed as soloist with various orchestras (in Mozart, Berlioz, Bartok) and held the position of principal violist with Syrinx Concerts since the beginning.

Zela TERRY, principal cello

Ms. TERRY was born in the United States and began her career at the age of 19 with the Pittburgh Symphony before joining the New York Philharmonic. After several years as principal cellist of the Stuttgart and the International Bach Academy Orchestras, she was named solo cellist with the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra in 1990. She has been section leader for Syrinx Concerts from the beginning and has been a frequent performer of solo works with them and with the Nice Philharmonic. She has always led a concurrent concert and recording career in the company of some of the finest jazz artists.

Pierre MARCOUL, principal flute

Mr. MARCOUL received a 1st prize from the Lyon National Conservatory and several international competition awards. Formerly principal flutist of the Gulbenkian Foundation Orchestra of Lisbon, he was named to the same position in the Nice Philharmonic in 1989. He is also a recognized teacher in the field of jazz.

François MEYER, principal oboe

Mr. MEYER is a graduate of the Lyon National Conservatory and principal flutist with the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra. He began as principal of the Orchestre Symhonique du Rhin, founded the Nice Wind Ensemble, and is a respected performer of both Baroque and contemporary music. During his years with the Vents Français (French Wind Ensemble) he gave concerts throughout Russia, Germany, Italy, Brazil, Argentina and Estonia.

Frédéric RICHIRT, principal clarinet

With degrees from the Regional Conservatories of Douai and Rueil-Malmaison, Mr. RICHIRT joined the Société des Concerts Lamoureux as principal clarinettist in 1987. He took up the same position with the Nice Philharmonic in 1989 where he has been a frequent performer of concertos and chamber music ever since.

Olivier FERAL, principal bassoon

Following studies at the Marseille Regional and the Lyon National Conservatories, Mr. FERAL became principal bassoonist of the Nice Philharmonic in 1984. He holds the same position with the Syrinx Concerts Orchestra and has performed as soloist there on several occasions.
